No matter how good your web site navigation is, if you have a large web site, you sell products or have a content based site it is always a good idea to have a web site search engine so visitors can quickly locate what they are looking for.

We have two search engines you can use on your site, WebGlimpse was the original and now we offer the easy to use ht://Dig.

ht://Dig:

The ht://Dig system is a complete world wide web indexing and searching system for a domain or intranet. This system is not meant to replace the need for powerful internet-wide search systems like Google and AltaVista. Instead, it is meant to cover the search needs for a single company, campus, or even a particular sub section of a web site.

Note: Your site will automatically be re-indexed once a week. If you would like to re-index your site now, click the 'Re-index' link in the menu in your control panel. Note that re-indexing your site now will not effect or change the weekly indexing schedule.

Simply install by clicking the icon in your control panel. 

Copy and paste the text below into any of your html pages to have a simple search tool right on your website.

Web Glimpse:

We provide another web site search engine free with all hosting packages (or you can install your own). WebGlimpse is fairly easy to customize yet extremely powerful as you'll see below.

WebGlimpse Instructions:

  • Choose the Search Engine icon from the Control Panel

  • Click the install Button, after approx. 10 minutes your search engine will be automatically installed

  • You then have four options through the Search Manager:

  1. Remove WebGlimpse from your site:
    You can remove the search engine at any time by pressing the Remove WebGlimpse button

  2. Update the contents of your WebGlimpse search:
    When you make changes to your web site you can re-index it by pressing the ReIndex Web Pages button

  3. Configure the directories that you would like included in searches:
    When you first install WebGlimpse it is automatically configured only to index text, it excluded image files. You have full control over which files it indexes however, you can cause it to index all files, or have it exclude any directory you like. Press the Directory Administration button. You can then add or remove files from the list using the criteria on the Search Engine Manager

  4. Test your new search engine:
    The final link at the bottom of the page allows you to test your search engine. Once you are satisfied you can use it at ins current location or you copy and paste it to another page.

Refine Searches

Your visitors will be able to refine their searches increasing their success rate

  • Enter your keywords or search terms and click submit. This will search for the exact string you entered.

  • For more general results use Partial Match which will return even more related pages.

  • To jump to the exact line in the page on which the string is found use the "Jump to line" function

  • If you are not sure exactly how a word is spelt choose the number of misspellings allowed

  • You can also limit the recentness of the information you want to search on as well as the number of files, matches and characters returned.
